 | The Best Mystery I have ever read Dec 16, 2009 |
I have watched Lis on the Bill O'Reilly show so I thought I would give her book a shot. I was stunned at how good it was. I knew she had a background in the law and was very surprised at how well she can also write. Rose Tasker | | | | Tommy Lightfoot Garrett, Canyon News in Beverly Hills Loves Lis Wiehl's Books Dec 3, 2009 |
BEVERLY HILLS- Lis Wiehl, author legal analyst and commentator on Fox News Channel is also a well-known and respected former prosecutor. She is adjunct professor of law at New York Law School and formerly was an associate professor at University of Washington Law School. Wiehl is often seen on Bill O'Reilly's show on Fox as well as heard on his radio program, "The Radio Factor." Lis is an advocate for women's rights and debates often on television and at seminars, which offer support for women's issues in the work place.
The beautiful and talented lady received a Bachelor's degree from Barnard College, a Master of Arts in Literature from University of Queensland and a Juris Doctor from the distinguished Harvard Law School. At the beginning of Lis's career she was an attorney for the law firm of Perkins Coie, then served as a federal prosecutor from 1990-1995. Wiehl worked for the House of Representatives team as principal deputy chief minority investigative counsel for the House Judiciary committee in the late 1990s, including during the infamous Clinton impeachment proceedings.
If all of this does not give someone a rich background to create and write books nothing does. Before we get into Wiehl's upcoming novels, we take a look at her best selling 2007 book, "The 51% Minority: How Women Are Still Not Equal and What You Can Do About It." In one very positive endorsement, a woman who ran for vice-president had to say of the book, "Frequently we hear that young women don't realize how many battles have been fought to guarantee them the rights they enjoy today. In 'The 51% Minority,' Lis Wiehl recalls that history and points out what is left to be done for American women to achieve full equality," said Geraldine Ferraro.
In a very factual way, Lis Wiehl explains to the readers and young women how to break through the glass ceiling and how not to take no for an answer. The fact that Wiehl has achieved more than many well connected men in the same field is proof that it can be done. This book is not only one young women should read, but young men as well. It's inspiring, imaginative and very easy to read and follow. It offers great advice from a person who has used all of the bullet-points in her own career and life in order to succeed.
Wiehl had previously written "Winning Every Time: How To Use The Skills Of A Lawyer In Trials Of Your Life" in 2005 and the bestseller is a virtually another road map to success and is filled with factoids and knowledge the impressive maverick has used to succeed in what many considered for decades to be a man's world.
I am happy to announce a new union in the literary world. The famed prosecutor, legal analyst and author has signed with the prestigious Thomas Nelson Publishing and she has completed two novels, which will be released in February and April 2010. "Hand of Fate" deals with an outspoken radio talk show host Jim Fate, who dies tragically and dramatically when poisonous gas fills his recording booth while his show, "The Hand of Fate" is on air. In the ensuing panic, police evacuate downtown Portland, leaving FBI Special Agent Nicole Hedges trapped in a high-rise building. This book is a winner. Wiehl has yet another best seller on her hands. I found myself wondering, fantasizing maybe about which of the men she's worked with on radio this book could be based on?
The other book due out next year is, "Face of Betrayal," released in hardcover in April 2009, spending several weeks on the New York Times bestseller list; the trade paper edition will release the first of February 2010.
Lis joins with esteemed writer April Henry, a mystery writer veteran, on a sizzling political thriller. When 17-year-old Senate page Katie Converse goes missing on her Christmas break near her parents' white Victorian home in Portland, Ore., law enforcement and media personnel go into overdrive in a search for clues. Three friends at the pinnacle of their respective careers--Allison Pierce, a federal prosecutor; Cassidy Shaw, a crime reporter; and Nicole Hedges, an FBI special agent--soon discover that Katie wasn't the picture of innocence painted by her parents. It appears Katie was having an affair with a much older man, a senator whose political career could be derailed if the affair was publicized. The seamless plot offers a plethora of twists and turns.
| | | | Slow Starter Nov 25, 2009 |
| Not what I would call a "page turner" but a decent enough read. My mind kept going to the Chandra Levy case and I found that a distraction. The characters were well developed but I found myself forgetting them all too quickly to really call this a great book. Most will enjoy it, if you can get past the slow start. | | | | Awesome read! But not for the faint at heart. Nov 24, 2009 |
A seventeen-year-old Senate page goes missing over Christmas break, and three friends--who call themselves The Triple Threat--take a personal and professional interest in the case. Federal prosecutor Allison Pierce, reporter Cassidy Shaw, and FBI Special Agent Nicole Hedges each work the case from their own angle, occasionally working together. The case digs up personal experiences and for each woman, making things almost personal. Can they separate their own emotions from their jobs? And can they find the missing girl before it's too late.
Awesome read! But not for the faint at heart. This book will stir up emotions, especially with female readers. Girls who love mysteries will benefit from getting a legal perspective on what can go wrong in male/female relationships. I enjoyed seeing the crime from three very different jobs: reporter, prosecutor, and investigator. I kept trying to guess who done it, and I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Well done, authors! This is an intriguing, stunning, and very real read. Highly recommended.
| | | | A fun romp into the mystery world Nov 23, 2009 |
Katie Converse is a US Senate page who comes home to Portland, Oregon on Christmas break. While home, she takes the family dog, Jalapeno, out for a walk. Katie never returns. Is it a simple case of a runaway teen or has something more sinister happened? Enter the triple threat; Allison Pierce, a federal prosecutor, Nicole Hedges, an FBI agent, and Cassidy Shaw, a TV reporter. These are three women with very different careers who just happen to be best friends.
It isn't long before Katie's MySpace page is discovered, her entries seem to point in one direction, to Senator Fairview, Katie's Washington sponsor. As the investigation heats up, the three friends use their unique talents to find the missing girl, or perhaps, locate her body. Allison convenes a grand jury, Nicole works with the girl's parents and shifts through a limited number of clues, while Cassidy uses her connections at her TV station to try and get a scoop.
When Katie's body is discovered, her death at first appears to be a suicide. But is it? And what about the homeless man and his young daughter who are living within shouting distance of the girl's body? Could it be the grower of the large marijuana field found nearby? There are a multitude of possibilities and Allison, Nicole, and Cassidy are kept quite busy sorting through the clues.
Face of Betrayal has plenty of plot twists to keep the reader turning pages. Blaming Katie's disappearance on the Senator seems too easy so the reader is led to believe the culprit must be somebody else...or perhaps the Senator is the wrongdoer. As the plot develops, the lives of the three friends play more of a pivotal part in the mystery. Each is dealing with their own problems (Allison has a stalker, Cassidy is dealing with an abusive boyfriend), while trying to solve the case.
The roles of Allison and Nicole are well-developed and these two seem to hold the bulk of attention from the author. That is until well into the story when Cassidy comes upon a key piece of evidence. Then the young newscaster's role jumps to the forefront. Regardless, it is nice to read a mystery where the key players are all strong woman characters.
The ending to Face of Betrayal seems a bit rushed with the suspect confessing much too easily, yet, it is unlikely that the reader will discover just who-dun-it until the very end. The several twists should leave one satisfied with this quick reading mystery.
